How this calculation works
Monthly interest is added to each balance. After entered minimums, available money is paid to the highest annual rate first. Cleared debt payments stay in the original monthly budget and roll to the next debt.
A worked example
With equal budgets and no fees, paying a 24% debt before a 12% debt generally reduces interest compared with prioritising a smaller low-rate balance.
Assumptions & limitations
- Balances and rates remain fixed except for interest and repayments. Actual card minimums can vary, so enter conservative fixed amounts and update the plan when statements change.
- Only five debts and 600 monthly periods are supported. The calculator shows any remaining debt instead of inventing a payoff date.
