THE WORKINGS

How this calculation works

Convert nominal monthly growth after fees to a real monthly growth factor by dividing by (1 + inflation)^(1/12). Solve the end-of-month annuity payment that uses the pot over the entered period. The displayed first monthly income is in today’s rand and later nominal withdrawals rise with inflation.

A worked example

At zero return, fees and inflation, R1.2 million over 20 years funds R5 000 monthly, exhausting capital at the end.

Assumptions & limitations

  • This deterministic drawdown is before income tax and is not a guaranteed annuity or living-annuity quote. It does not enforce product drawdown limits. Sequence risk, changing returns, longevity beyond the period and bequests are excluded.
