THE WORKINGS

How this calculation works

Sum your entered monthly living expenses, show annual and per-person averages, then grow the monthly total by your chosen annual increase over the planning period.

A worked example

R20 000 monthly living costs equal R240 000 annually. At 5% annual cost growth, the monthly total becomes R21 000 after one year.

Assumptions & limitations

  • This is your household’s budget, not a city price index or a national cost-of-living estimate. Equal per-person division is only an average. Income tax, debt and savings are excluded unless you include them as costs.
