THE WORKINGS

How this calculation works

Start with the first-year annual fee after the entered discount plus extras. Increase fees and extras by the annual assumption in subsequent years and sum all years. Monthly budgeting divides the chosen year’s annual cost by 12.

A worked example

R10 000 first-year fees at 10% annual increases cost R33 100 across three years: R10 000 + R11 000 + R12 100, before extras.

Assumptions & limitations

  • Use a school’s actual fee schedule. Increase and discount are your scenarios; discounts apply to fees only and stay constant as percentages. Bursaries, registration deposits, university costs and savings returns are excluded.
